I'm back! (maybe)

Wow- it's been since February since I last posted!!!! Obviously, I had my beautiful baby girl, who is doing quite well and with whom we are having a GREAT time with!! :)

So- I don't have much time to write, but here are some updates of what's going on:

1. Apparently my being away from my job this spring caused several things to implode... even though I set up things to make them workable while I was gone. I do NOT like having to 'fix' problems that shouldn't have happened in the first place, plus I CAN'T figure out what happened which has cause pretty ALL of my students to be confused about EVERYTHING this fall... I'm a bit flabbergasted just at the whole situation. I can't wait until everyone is abroad - because, really, they will do fine and our partners are great- and I can start 'new' with another group.

2. It's been MUCH harder to re-enter the workplace than I thought... I'm hoping due to point #1; otherwise, I can't figure it out. I mean, I miss my girl during the day, but it's not like it's killing me... I work at work and then when I'm at home, it's home stuff... I think it's more about feeling in control of things, which point #1 has COMPLETELY thrown off.

3. My sister is due to give birth in December!!! Yay!!! I'm SUPER excited!!! My girl will have a cousin!

4. We have moved from AT&T and the iPhone to Sprint and the HTC Evo. Which I LOVE!!!! It's SOOOOO user friendly and you can personalize so much, which is nice, plus the Sprint plan is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much cheaper than AT&T!!! My only complaint- they don't use sim cards, although I couldn't really do it with the iPhone either so when I go abroad, I'll just continue to use my old Ericson.

5. I have discovered WHY people breastfeed in public- there are VERY FEW places to GO to to feed babies!! I pretty much go to the car if we are out to feed (and use a cover), but it's surprising how few places- even at malls- there are to feed your baby. In one instance, I have feed my girl, standing up in the bathroom... VERY not cool :( They need to fix that. Nordstroms is AWESOME, but because they are so accommodating, their lounge is pretty full most of the time I'm there.
Side note- I don't like to bring bottles because I breast feed and pump and I kinda' need all of the pumped milk for during the work week!

6. I have discovered that the pediatric doctors in the Washington, DC area are AMAZING, as are the doctors at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. My girl is fine- just had a rather large hemangioma on her eye. (she's on treatment- the beta blockers- and it's pretty amazing how much the growth has gone down!)

7. I got the Barnes & Noble Nook- OMG!!! This is the BEST thing I have probably every got! (ok, that may not be true, but it's in the top) I wasn't sure how I would like reading off something like this - I'm pretty traditional about books- but I really love it and I love even more how B&N keeps updating their software and bringing new stuff in!! Also- it takes multiple formats and so I mostly have on there FREE books through Google books! :) Yay!

So, that's my quick update- I hope everyone is doing well!

  1. Hi! Had to pop over and 'meet' you since you visited my blog. We have a lot in common! I also love to 'travel' by blog reading. Motherhood... although my babies aren't babies anymore! New fun phones, and book readers (mine's a Sony). :) Good for you for breastfeeding. That's so good for your baby and you! I agree with the lack of places to nurse in public, and don't agree with nursing in bathrooms (I wouldn't eat in one, babies shouldn't have to either). I carried my babies in a Maya Wrap and the cloth made a good cover... more for my tummy than the baby... they hated having their heads covered. ;) I never had any negative reactions from people (in the US or abroad) only very positive.

  2. Thanks Connie for coming over! :) I am really liking your blog- thanks so much for witting!
Do you like your Sony? I'm totally in LOVE with my Nook! Much more than I thought I'd be...
I'll have to look up the Maya Wrap. Right now I just use a bebe au lait cover (http://shop.bebeaulait.com/nc) and it works very good, but baby Z doesn't like being all that covered upeither and it's true that I would like to have my belly covered better in most cases. I overall prefer to just have a 'spot' to nurse in public areas and I wish they would make things more friendly in that way! Thankfully, most people are very understanding when I nurse though... :)
